Niche.com recently conducted a study to find the best places to raise a family in the U.S. based on “key factors that are meaningful for families.”

“This grade takes into account key factors, such as the quality of local schools, safety, affordability, and access to family amenities, in an attempt to measure the appeal of an area for families,” Niche.com stated in the study.

To conduct the study, Niche.com also looked at the quality of public schools, the cost of living, crime and safety, diversity, families amenities, walkability, children poverty, higher education, housing factors and more.

So, what Michigan city is among the best to raise a family in the U.S.? According to the study, Ann Arbor ranks No. 5 on the list of the best spots to raise little ones.

Ann Arbor has a population of 120,735 and is located in Washtenaw County. The median home value in Ann Arbor is $323,400, which is above the national of $217,500. The median rent is $1,237.

One reason Ann Arbor is so high on the list is because Niche.com also ranks the city No. 2 on the tally of the best public schools in America.

“Living in Ann Arbor offers residents an urban suburban mix feel and most residents rent their homes,” the study states. “In Ann Arbor, there are a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Many young professionals live in Ann Arbor and residents tend to have moderate political views. The public schools in Ann Arbor are highly rated.”
