Detroit DDOT fleet getting first electric buses

The Detroit Department of Transportation released four electric buses on Monday

DETROIT, Mich. – The Detroit Department of Transportation is on a mission to increase green technology and safe transportation, and in line with that vision, the department released four electric buses on Monday (May 23).

A ceremony took place early Monday in Detroit to officially unveil the Proterra electric buses. They mark the first electric buses in DDOT’s fleet.

So, what’s so special about these electric buses? According to DDOT, the new buses are quieter, more energy efficient, use fewer parts and produce fewer emissions.

The charging station for the buses is at the Shoemaker Terminal on the Detroit’s east side.

“DDOT is excited and proud to partner with Proterra to bring cleaner transit to Detroit,” DDOT’s executive director of Transit C. Mikel Oglesby said in a statement. “Detroiters deserve safe and sustainable transit, and we are happy to be at the forefront of this exciting technology.”
