5 Other Viruses Should Worry Parents, Says Fiocruz

Many parents are worried about the new coronavirus, but according to the latest Infogripe weekly newsletter, published by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, they should also be on the lookout for the reappearance of other respiratory viruses, too.

As with Covid-19, these viruses have also generated acute respiratory syndrome.

Considered serious, the respiratory complication, associated with the worsening of certain viral infections, carries risks, especially for children up to 9 years of age, according to AgĂȘncia Brasil.

Some of the viruses of concern include Bocaviruses and Parainfluenza 3 and 4, as well as respiratory syncytial viruses and rhinoviruses, which had already been recorded since the beginning of 2021.

According to the Fiocruz bulletin, the syncytial virus is one of the main causes of respiratory and pulmonary infections in newborns. It’s responsible for 75% of bronchiolitis and 40% of pneumonia in children up to 2 years old. That’s why it’s so important for parents to keep an eye on their little ones, and at the slightest sign of the flu or a bad cough, it’s time to see a doctor.
