Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announces run for re-election

'I'm ready to fight back,' Whitmer says

It’s official: Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is running for re-election. Whitmer announced the news Monday (Feb. 28) via Twitter.

From her verified personal account, Whitener tweeted, “I’m Gretchen Whitmer — a proud mom, lifelong Michigander, and hardworking governor. I’m running for re-election in a swing state where special interests are pouring millions to unseat me. There’s so much at stake in this race, but I’m ready to fight back.”

Whitmer became the governor of Michigan in 2019. She’s the state’s 49th governor and followed Rick Snyder in office. More than a dozen Republicans are vying for the Republication nomination for 2022.
