Barack Obama’s summer playlist offers a range of genres, tastes

Joe Cocker's "Feelin' Alright," Bruce Springsteen's "Dancing in the Dark" and Jack White's "I'm Shakin'" appear on the playlist

It’s become an annual tradition for former president Barack Obama to share is summer playlist, and it’s always filled with surprises.

While Obama seems like the kind of guy who would pack his playlist with R&B and pop, his 2022 edition offers a dose of rock music, with Joe Cocker’s “Feelin’ Alright,” Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark,” Jack White’s “I’m Shakin'” and Wet Leg’s “Angelica.”

Of course, Obama tries to get some artists in from every genre, so you’ll find country artists (Maren Morris, Kacey Musgraves, Lyle Lovett), rap (Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar), pop (Harry Styles), classic R&B (Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding) and more.

“Every year, I get excited to share my summer playlist because I learn about so many new artists from your replies — it’s an example of how music really can bring us all together,” Obama said on Twitter. “Here’s what I’ve been listening to this summer. What songs would you add?”
