America’s Oldest Candy Cane Company is in Ohio

Christmastime is here, and that means it’s time to enjoy some sweet, tasty candy canes. If you’re a Ohio resident, you can have some pride in the fact that the the oldest candy cane company in America is in Cincinnati.

The company is called Doscher’s Candy Company, and it opened back in 1871 by a candy maker named Claus Doscher. It’s candy canes taste exactly the same as they did 150 years ago, to boot, as Doscher’s states they still use the same recipe. “We use the same copper kettles and time-honored techniques so that every candy cane is a one-of-a-kind piece of confectionary art,” they state on their website.

In addition to candy canes, Doscher’s crafts peppermint pieces, candy buttons, and French Chews, among other sweet treats. The French Chew is a Doscher’s original, described as a “chewy, nougat-like candy that we make in amazing flavors and shape into either bars or individually wrapped bite-size mini’s.”
