NFL and NFLPA ending COVID-19 protocols

The NFL first implemented COVID-19 protocols two years ago

The National Football League has announced it’s ending COVID-19 protocols. On Thursday (March 3), the National Football League and the National Football League Player’s Association came to an agreement to suspend all of their joint COVID-19 Protocols effective immediately.

The league sent a memo to teams, stating that the decision was due to rapidly declining COVID-19 rates, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The news means there will be no more mandatory testing and that masks are no longer required at team facilities. Testing will happen “when clinically indicated or at the direction of a club physician,” according to the league.

Teams will be able to keep some testing equipment at their facilities but are allowed to remove the testing trailers. The change in protocols also means the league was able to end limits on weight rooms and other gathering spots.

The NFL first implemented protocols two years ago. Since then, not one NFL game was canceled due to COVID-19, meaning the protocols were successful.
