2022 Grammy Awards change date, location

This year will mark the first time the Grammy telecast has taken place anywhere but L.A. or New York since 1973

Sometimes it feels as if 2020 is happening all over again, with numerous events and festivities being canceled or postponed due to the highly contagious omicron variant. Now, the Recording Academy has announced a new air date and location for the 2022 Grammy Awards, after being forced to postpone the event.

The 2022 Grammy Awards will take place on April 3 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The ceremony was originally scheduled for Jan. 31 date at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.

Many facets of the program will stay the same. For example, “The Daily Show’s” Trevor Noah, who was slated to host the January event, will host the new edition. More event details are expected to be announced soon.

The Grammy Awards, known as “Music’s Biggest Night,” will air on CBS at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. Spectators will be able to watch live and on demand on Paramount+.

“We are excited to take the Grammys to Las Vegas for the very first time, and to put on a world-class show. From the moment we announced the postponement of the original show date, we have been inundated with heartfelt messages of support and solidarity from the artist community,” Harvey Mason Jr. of The Recording Academy said in a statement.

He added, “We are humbled by their generosity and grateful for their unwavering commitment to the Grammy Awards and the Academy’s mission. We appreciate the leadership CBS and our production partners at Fulwell 73 have shown during these challenging weeks and the flexibility of everyone who worked toward this solution.”

This year will mark the first time the telecast has taken place anywhere but L.A. or New York since 1973, when it was hosted in Nashville, Tennessee. It will also be the first time the event has ever been hosted in a city in which the Recording Academy does not have chapter.
