From Marquette to Ludington, Michigan cities offer unique ways to celebrate the New Year

Who says you have to travel to New York City to see a proper ball drop on New Year’s Eve? Michigan has several towns that do their own festive ball drops and offer other ways to party into the New Year.

Read on for five memorable Michigan spots to see the ball drop or party it up to ring in 2022. Because why not say “hello” to the New Year with some Michigan love? Of course, Michiganders can always choose to stay home and watch the ball drop on TV, cozied up in a blanket, drinking champaign. But, for those who want to venture out, here are some options.

Marquette’s New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. If you’re up north for the New Year’s holiday, the folks in Marquette always do it up big for the holiday with their annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. The event starts at 11 p.m. at the corner of Washington Street and Front Street.

Kalamazoo’s New Year’s Fest. Looking to ring in 2022 with a lot of music? Then Kalamazoo has you covered. The Western Michigan town will host roughly 30 entertainers performing at 10 different locations surrounding Bronson Park on New Year’s Eve leading up to midnight.

Ludington’s New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. Ludington is known for its annual New Year’s Eve Ball Drop event. The party kicks off at 9 p.m. with live music, a beer tent, fireworks and more.

New Year’s Eve Party at Eastern Market Brewing Company in Detroit. The Motor City always has a lot of options when it comes to New Year’s Eve, and one popular choice is the annual New Year’s Eve Party at Eastern Market Brewing Company. A $50 ticket includes three craft beers, including non-alcoholic options, as well as light snacks, board games, party favors and a beer toast.

The Gatsby New Year’s Eve Gala in Ferndale. The Loving Touch in Ferndale hosts its popular Gatsby New Year’s Eve Gala on Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. The theme is the “Roaring ’20s,” and expect classic jazz music, too. There’s even a ball drop at midnight at the venue. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required.
