Lansing Lugnuts have new owners

Diamond Baseball Holdings now owns Lansing's minor league baseball team

The Lansing Lugnuts have a new owner in Diamond Baseball Holdings. The company is known for owning and operating minor league teams affiliated with Major League Baseball.

The deal ends the Lugnuts’ longtime ownership under Take Me Out to the Ballgame, which purchased the team back in 1994 when it was the Waterloo Diamonds. Then, the team moved to Lansing in 1996 and became the Lansing Lugnuts.

“The Lugnuts have been one of the great joys in my life. It is a bittersweet decision to sell the team,” Tom Dickson, Take Me Out to the Ballgame managing partner, said in a statement. “But I can promise you that DBH’s Peter Freund and Pat Battle are terrific people who love baseball, and I am confident that the Lugnuts and the City of Lansing are in good hands with them.”

The deal still has to be approved by Minor League Baseball and the City of Lansing.
